Hidden north of the Yakima Valley, Ellensburg is rich with authenticity, culture and history. Incorporated in 1883, the city of Ellensburg quickly sprouted up as a powerful town located in the heart of Washington. Originally a candidate for the state capital, the town suffered a devastating fire in 1889 that gave them the “State Normal School” (now Central Washington University) as a consolation prize for losing their campaign to Olympia.
Explore the Yakima Valley river canyon, search for Ellensburg Blues in the hills, try new cuisine in the historic downtown, hit the slopes at the Snoqualmie Summit; there is truly something for everyone, in every season.
